Part 2 of the Scrap Afghan
I've been having way too much fun making the 2 round squares using up my scrap yarn. I haven't bothered to start attaching them together because there are still a few colors I want to add. I have to wait though until I make about 4 hats from each of the Caron One Pounders I have so I can add more colors. I really only want this afghan to be yarn that I can't really use for any other project. So I will get back to making hats so I can get to that small ball of leftover yarn.
I will probably end up making the afghan for a child or teen and donate it. Each square is about two inches so now I just need to figure out how big I want the blanket to be and then I can decide how many squares I will need. I also need to figure out what color I want for the outside border. I was thinking black but my husband suggested something bright like yellow. The other thing I was wondering about is should I only use the color for the border or should I also use that same color as some of the squares? Decisions, decisions. Any suggestions?

Nice progress on the squares. My suggestion would be to use a color that's in the blanket. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, I think that's what I'm going to end up doing. I think I will decide on the color to use for the border when I have all the squares done.

ReplyDeleteHi Katie,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your husband, you should use some brighter color and crochet a few blocks to the blanket too.
Lovely project, I have never made any blanket, but I am planning...
hugs,

Awesome group and lots of great colors. I like your idea of black. Black really makes the colors jump, looks sorta stain glass like. Dark blue and green can as well. I would probably stay away from yellow. Edged in black it would work for a female or a male. Yellow really makes it only for a girl; plus with your darker colors in your squares I'm not that would come together very well. Picking a color from your squares works well too, typically if you have one dominate color when you're done, pick that one.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for commenting and giving suggestions. As soon as I get all of my squares done I will make a decision on what to do about the border.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie, Since I finished my frilly stash-buster blanket, I decided to start another. Uh-oh! I decided to work in blues and white, and, well, I used up the colors. You guessed it! Off I went to buy more yarn to match the colors. I guess this will be my stash-buster/builder blanket!
ReplyDelete:)
That's the only bad thing about stash-buster blankets, you either have to wait years to accumulate enough stash or you have to buy more yarn. Although, personally I don't consider it much of a problem to have to go out and buy more yarn. lol
DeleteI love your idea of putting 4 blocks together then bordering them. I have lots and lots of small balls of left over yarn that I need to use up.
ReplyDeleteBy the way I found you on Bridge and Beyond. You have beautiful donations.
Thanks for stopping by Sherry! It's nice to see someone from Bridge and Beyond.

Deletethis looks like it's gonna be great! i think a solid color boarder will look nice, in comparison to the frequent color change. I also agree with your husband, yellow is always the best choice!
